“Tell them about your dream”

January 2024 Newsletter
“I have a dream.”

Four simple words, and yet it is impossible to say them, think them, or write them without thinking of Martin Luther King Jr. and his iconic speech.

That particular line and the declarations that followed it was partly improvised and came towards the end of a long speech that was, according to eyewitness accounts, up until that point a tad dry.

It was a prompt from a member of the audience to “tell them about your dream, Martin” that helped deliver one of the most famous moments of the American Civil Rights movement.

Dreams, on their own, do not have power. With the power of words, they can inspire. With the power of action, they can become reality. With words and action, they can change the world - as Dr. King did.

Can I tell you about my dream?

Every non-profit exists to put itself out of work. We don't want to see a world where hunger, homelessness, and other challenges are the headlines in not only the newspapers but also in the hearts and minds of many of our vulnerable neighbours.

It's why we do what we do each day, working to restore hope and dignity whether it's through the food and household goods we rescue, the shelter we provide, or the little escape some of our clients receive on Saturday nights through the power of music.

I dream of a day where we don't need to do any of those things - people are well, well fed, and well sheltered. Until that day, we answer the call to serve wherever that may take us.

Thank you for partnering with us on this journey. You're helping make dreams into reality - for us, but most importantly for those we serve.
